Gabala is a small and a very nice city of Azerbaijan. Tourists from all over the world keep coming here to do mountain skiing and to have a ride on merry-go-rounds, to plunge into the wonderful atmosphere of the city which is more than 2,000 years old, enjoy its mountain lakes, waterfalls. There are plenty of popular places in Gabala — if you plan your itinerary in a literal way, you will be able to visit if not all then at least most of them.
What is worth seeing in Gabala?
It all depends on your goal.
If you are interested in ancient monuments, historical places, walk in the city centre, and if you have enough time, go to the suburbs: there is a lot to see there. In the village of Nij there live Udi, descendants of Caucasian Albanians, there functions the Udi Temple (late XVIIth - early XVIIIth centuries), which is the most interesting architectural monument. Other attractions worth visiting include history and area studies museum, the Juma mosque, the Mausoleum of Imam-Baba (XVIIIth century).
The nature of Gabala area is unique: oak, chestnut, beech woods, plenty of most beautiful waterfalls (the most popular of them among tourists is the ‘Seven Beauties’), mountain lakes and turbulent rivers, non-mineral and mineral springs. The nature of those places is not just beautiful, it calms you down, makes you feel relaxed, while the air in the mountains, combined with the sea one, contributes to treatment of many diseases and improves your immunity. Visit the Zagatala reserve — about 900 species of plants and 30 species of mammals are there nowadays.
‘Gabaland’ is a real finding for those who have come to have some rest with children or who wants to get a portion of joy, entertainment, adrenaline. Besides amusement rides for different ages and different temperaments, you can have there carting, sports grounds, a swimming-pool+aqua park, an ice arena and plenty of restaurants where you can have some food.
‘Tufandag’ will welcome those fond of sports, extreme vacation: besides mountain skiing you can have ropeway walks, go to restaurants, on excursions there. There is no chance of getting bored there.
The above are by far not all the popular places in Gabala loved by tourists, but this list is enough for you to quit any doubt and go there to have some rest.
