Gabala (Qabala) is a small, but modern city of Azerbaijan which is respectfully called the ‘Azerbaijanian Switzerland’ by people. The rich history of the resort (more than 2,000 years) could not but leave its imprint: coming for a holiday here, find some time to go sightseeing, you will not be sorry for that.
If we have a look at the map, we will come to know that Gabala is located in the lower part of the gorge of mounts Tufan and Bazar Yurt, at the foothill of the Greater Caucasus, on the shore of the picturesque river of Damiraparanchay.
The area of the resort is not that large — together with the adjacent lands the city territory occupies 1,500 sq. km. The number of residents is also small – less than 13,000 people.
The climate is rather pleasant: mountains protect the resort in summer from enduring heat, and in winter — from severe frosts, therefore the weather here almost always pleases tourists and local residents with its mildness. From April to September there is a season of rain in this locality, but moisture level even in this period remains low and quite comfortable for having a good rest.
You can derive a lot of pleasure from having rest in Gabala in any season of the year: for instance, in winter you can go to the top-of-the-line ski mountaineering complex of the Caucasus, ‘Tufandag’. And, certainly, in any period of the year parks and museums are waiting here for you, as well as quite a number of historical and architectural monuments. Besides that, ‘Gabaland’ called the Disneyland of Azerbaijan operates here all the year round for the guests of the country. ‘Gabaland’ is an amusement park with amusement machines and 6D amusement facilities, there are tracks for race cars and a swimming-pool, there are seven artificial lakes and plenty of cafes, restaurants.
One can get to Gabala using different modes of transport. From the capital Baku buses go to the city. One can take a taxi or rent a car. Quite recently there has been completed construction of a new international airport, and this is supposed to improve tourism to Gabala raising it to a completely new level: now the airport has connection with Baku, but in the nearest future air connection will be in place with other regions of Azerbaijan, of post-Soviet countries.
Gabala includes popular cultural centres and theatres, unique historical and architectural monuments, palaces and temples, that is a well-developed tourist infrastructure, so there will be no time for getting bored there.
Going for a holiday to Gabala, find some time to attend the Imam-Baba Mausoleum, the Defense Tower, the Juma Mosque, the building of the People’s Theatre. Quite a number of monuments of history and architecture are located in the city outskirts — organize an independent trip or order an inpidual excursion tour and visit an Albanian church in the village of Amili, the Ustajan fortress in Bayramkohe, Shihbaba feast in Hamzalah, Gadzhi-Garib Mosque in Nij.
